Rumours makes complicated feelings sound deceptively effortless. Dreams settles into its groove, Go Your Own Way pulls hard in the other direction, and The Chain gathers the band into one of the record’s most forceful passages. The differences between the songwriters keep it moving.
Christine McVie’s Songbird gives the album a quieter centre of gravity. For all the stories around its making, the reason to own it remains the songs and how closely the band plays them.
Edition: LP.
Rolling Stone: No. 7 in the 2023 edition of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
