The Endless Summer

The oversized poster hanging above our record bins is John Van Hamersveld’s work. Its surfer silhouettes and bright sun connect this room on Hastings Street to a landmark of surf-film design.

His work reaches well beyond surfing: from Capitol Records and psychedelic concert posters to the sleeves of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead, KISS and Blondie.

MoMA’s collection includes both The Endless Summer poster and the sleeve for Exile on Main St.
