Jar of Flies shows how much weight Alice in Chains could create with space and acoustic textures. Nutshell keeps the arrangement spare and exposed, while No Excuses finds a surprisingly easy rhythmic pocket beneath the familiar vocal harmonies.
It is a short record with a distinct mood rather than an unplugged run through the band’s louder material. I Stay Away broadens the sound without breaking that spell. This copy is the 30th Anniversary edition.
Edition: 30th Anniversary, LP.
