Facelift is heavy in a way that owes as much to the band’s rhythmic pull as to its guitar sound. Jerry Cantrell’s riffs have room to grind, and Layne Staley’s voice can turn a held note into the centre of the song. Man in the Box is only the beginning.
Try the opening We Die Young and the darker sprawl of Love, Hate, Love. This is the 30th Anniversary double-LP edition of Alice in Chains’ debut album.
Edition: 30th Anniversary, 2LP.
